Denene BassettDirector of Development
Denene, the daughter of a United States Air Force Officer, grew up in a military family living in various Bases
throughout the world. Denene attended college in Shreveport, LA and worked in various administrative positions
before spending 18 months in Italy as a missionary for her church where she learned to speak fluent Italian.
Shortly after returning from Italy, Denene met and married her husband, Clark. After the birth of their first
child, Denene made the decision to leave her administrative position and stay home with their children until their
youngest started school.
Denene and Clark transferred their children to a charter school in 2002. After learning that the school did not
have a library on site, Denene composed a plan to bring a fully stocked, functional library to the school.
Spearheading the project, Denene enlisted the aid of parents, local businesses, and civic leaders to organize, fund
and supply the Library, completing the project in 4 months. Denene continues to serve as volunteer librarian at the
school.
Denene is an experienced manager in the hospitality industry where she has organized corporate events, fundraisers,
luncheons and banquets. She also uses her talents and expertise as a volunteer in many capacities within her
communities, including leadership positions in the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations; various church Youth
Groups; at her children's school; and currently teaches Genealogical classes at her local community center. Denene
has worked on events and projects that give encouragement and support to Military service members and their
families including serving as a volunteer with Stars for Stripes. Denene currently engages in contract work for a
National Convention planning company where she supervises and recruits for functions in the Phoenix area.
Denene became involved with HFA to help other women realize they have the power as individuals to make informed
decisions, be it locally, nationally or anything in between. She wants to give women the opportunity to share their
knowledge and experience with other women, not as a means of persuasion, but for support and growth. "I maybe just
one voice," states Denene, "but I want it to be valued and heard. Information is knowledge and knowledge is what
makes my voice valuable."
Denene and her husband Clark resides in the Phoenix, Arizona area, and they are the parents of 4 children.
